Text of the video:

Hello, I’m Silvia Folch and I’m here to speak about Family Vocabulary. You know?
In English my mother and my father are my parents, not “my fathers” like in Spanish “mis padres”, no, they are my parents. Okay? So, when I’m talking about mother and father, I’m talking about parents.  Okay?
When I’m talking about my aunt and my uncle, “mi tía y mi tío”, I have to say: my aunt and my uncle, I can not say “mis tios” “my uncles” I have to say my aunt and my uncle. Okay?
When I talk about son and daughter: “mi hijo y mi hija” I say my children, “mis hijos”, my children, I don’t say “my sons”  I say my children.
When I talk about “brothers and sisters”, I have to say “my brother and my sister” not “my brothers” “mis hermanos” si no “mi hermano y mi hermana” my brother and sister.
Cousins, is an easy word because cousins, when I say I have a male cousin or a female cousin and yes, when I say “cousins”, I say “cousins” like “mis primos” Okay?
When I speak about all these people I’m speaking about my relatives. “Relatives”  “mis parientes” Okay? So, “parents” is not “parientes”. “Parientes is “relatives” and this is what we call in English “false friends”
Now, what about “grandmother”? My grandmother and my grandfather are my grandparents. My grandmother “abuela” and my grandfather “abuelo” are my grandparents, okay? When I talk about my grandchildren: my grandson “mi nieto” my granddaughter “mi nieta”, my grandchildren “mis nietos”.
I’m going to speak about “the in-laws” la familia política. The in-laws are: my mother-in-law and my father-in-law, the plural is my parents-in-law, not my fathers-in-law. Mother-in-law “suegra”, father-on-law “,suegro”, parents-in-law, “suegros”. Okay?
My brother-in-law, my sister-in-law are my brothers and sisters-in-law, you don’t say: “mis cuñados” referring to brothers and sisters-in-law, you have to say: my brothers and sisters-in-law.
When you have a son-in-law and you have a daughter-in-law yes, you say “my sons in law” if they’re men and “daughters-in-law” if they’re women but you don’t say “my sons-in-law when you speak about the group or the girls and the boys. And all these relatives are your “in laws” “la familia política”.
Here we have an example of how to use family names, for example: Robert and Mary have two daughters; Carmen and Victoria, Carmen is married with David, Victoria is married with Steven. David is Carmen’s husband and Carmen is David’s wife. Victoria is Steven’s wife, Steven is Victoria’s husband. Victoria and Steven have two children; Rosa and Harry, Rosa is Victoria and Steven’s daughter, Harry is Victoria and Steven’s son. Rosa is David and Carmen’s niece, Harry is David and Carmen’s nephew. David is Rosa and Harry’s uncle, Carmen is Rosa and Harry’s aunt. Harry is David’s nephew.
David is Carmen’s husband, that means that David is the husband of Carmen but in English we don’t say “the husband of Carmen” we say Carmen’s husband so, we say “Carmen is David’s wife” we don’t say “Carmen is the wife of David”, no, we say “Carmen is David’s wife” “David’s wife”. Okay? Now, “Rosa is David’s niece”, “Harry is David’s nephew”. “Victoria and Steven are Rosa and Harry’s parents. “Carmen is Rosa and Harry’s aunt”. “Carmen and David are Rosa and Harry’s aunt and uncle”.
