Boca del Asno

La Boca del Asno is a little natural park and picnic area a 10-minute drive from La Granja de San Ildefonso towards Puerto de Navacerrada (not towards Segovia - you can't miss it because of the big sign). In my opinion, this is absolutely the nicest natural area within driving distance of Madrid. There's also a multi-media nature interpretation centre here where youngsters can learn a little more about the area and short easy trails for people to hike.

A map of the valley of Valsain. At the southwest end, notice the Puerto de Navacerrada which is where the trailhead of the Camino Schmid is found. La Granja is at the north end of the map. Segovia is a 10-minute drive towards the west from there.

You can also visit La Granja de San Ildefonso nearby. Or, you can go to Segovia.
