To achieve this we customize our programs, hire the best English teachers on the market and train them to give them the personal Pueblo Inglés touch to fit the client’s needs.
Many of you may have heard of our company because we have
been running “Pueblo Inglés” programs since July of 2001.
Thanks to over 8,000 English native volunteers, students
and business people from all over Spain have practiced “real
English” in our beautiful countryside venues: Valdelavilla,
La Alberca, Cazorla, Pals and Umbria. For the past four
years we have also been successfully running other programs
for which we need and hire English teachers.
These are the following:
One
to One and Group classes, In-company and private classes
We assess our clients’ needs in order to provide the most appropriate program whether it is in-company (Madrid center and outskirts) or at our offices in central Madrid. (Metros Ruben Dario, Iglesia or Gregorio Marañon). The classes are either one to one or in a group of maximum 6 per class.
Executive
Masters in English:
The main objective of the Masters program is to help the students master the language in the following areas: speaking, writing, listening and reading. This is achieved through a 10-month program that includes classes in groups of a maximum of 6 students, personal study time and two full-immersion programs in Pueblo Inglés (total of 16 days).
There are 2 formats:
Weekends: Fridays from 4pm to 9:15pm and Saturdays
from 9:15am to 2:30pm
Weekday: Monday thru Wednesday from 7-10pm.
Seminars:
Throughout the year, we organize specialized courses for medium to large groups (from 6 to 12 students). These courses are taught in-company or to private groups in the Madrid offices. These are some of the areas we cover:
CONFERENCE CALLS - THE LANGUAGE OF NEGOTIATIONS - BUSINESS WRITING
- MEETINGS IN ENGLISH - BUSINESS VOCABULARY - SOCIAL ENGLISH
- PRESENTATIONS - PRONUNCIATION SKILLS - INTENSIVE LISTENING
PRACTICE - GRAMMAR EXPRESS - ENGLISH FOR I.T. PROFESIONALS.
Skills/Qualities we look for in our teachers:
- Self-starter, highly motivated.
- Able to work alone, yet be a team player when required by certain programs.
- Excellent communication skills and engaging personality.
- A deep sense of responsibility.
- The ability to maintain long-term interest and to motivate corporate personnel, from the chairperson down to the lowest echelons.
- The ability to adapt to the different personalities and temperaments of your students and to be equally effective in all in-class environments.
- The ability to be personable, endearing and firm.
What
we offer:
- Stable work: hourly classes, intensive courses, Masters program (minimum
of 10 months), residential courses (weekend and weekly), Kids
& Teen camp
- The opportunity to teach different levels, individuals and groups in-company or at our offices.
- Training to communicate our philosophy, method, explain what material is available and the class/billing procedures (5 days for teachers with less than 2 years of experience, 1 to 2 days to teachers with more than 2 years of teaching experience).
- A selection of material available, both ours and from other publishers, which will help reinforce everything that needs to be transmitted in class (grammar, reading, vocabulary and listening material for each level).
- Professional, yet friendly working environment in a rapid-growth period for the company.
- Information to help you regulate your working situation in Spain - where to go to get a Social Security Number, apply for Residency Card and becoming a freelance worker (autónomo).
- Pay - Due to high market demand, we look for dedicated teachers
with experience and we pay them well . . . Rates go from 19€ to
24€ an hour depending on location, work experience and seniority.
Every year, rates are revised according to the results of the
teachers’ feedback.
- Monthly workshops for all the teachers. Continuous follow-up
and support from the Academic Director, available by email and
for meetings upon request.
FAQ’s:
Do I need to speak Spanish?
No, in fact we prefer that our teachers have a low level of Spanish or do not speak it at all. Teachers with a high level tend to translate in class, which is detrimental to the students’ listening comprehension and learning of vocabulary.
Do we
contract non–EU workers?
Due to the complexity of this process and the fact that,
unless you have an EU residence permit, it is nearly impossible,
and we do not hire teachers from countries other than the
European Union.
When will work be available?
- In-company classes: The core of the classes go from September
or October until the end of June or July. Nevertheless, depending
on demand, courses can start anytime during the year. January
is also one of the peak moments of the year.
- We have groups of the different Masters programs starting in: February, April, June, October.
- Seminars: Throughout the year.
- Residential Courses, "Villa Inglesa": Almost every
week and weekend throughout the year, including the summer.
- Kids and Teens: summer months and some weekends.
What is a typical class like?
Our classes vary, but usually they are one-to-one or small groups. The students tend to be middle-aged professionals working in multinational companies. Some classes are intensive, but most last from September to July.
How do I get paid?
You will bill us at the end of the month for the hours that
you have taught, as external suppliers - autonomos. This means
that you are responsible for paying your own Social Security
(between 150€ and 210€ a month). Taxes are automatically deducted
at 15% when you bill us.
Do I have to be an autónomo or can I work under a contract?
Most of our teachers choose to be "autónomos"
(freelance) because they rate per hour is higher, even after
paying social security. Nonetheless, if you are working under
contract with another school or wish to have a contract with
us, we can hire you for the hours that you teach with us for
the duration of the classes. You can be contracted by several
places at one time.

Employment
Information:
Qualification requirements for employment?
Most of the teachers have university degrees, and TEFL certificates
are not a requirement as Pueblo Inglés has its own 40-hour
one-week training program (plus an additional 10 hours of
teaching practice).
|
|
Experience requirements for employment?
None required, but preferred. In any case, training is provided.
Hire at a distance?
No, though generally they interview candidates first by
phone and then face-to-face in person. They hire a lot of
teachers direct from abroad via their marketing network,
which attracts literally 1,000s of volunteer teachers from
abroad to their English villages where students from all
over the world study English intensively. In fact, they
would prefer that teachers first teach in one of the villages
before they actually teach in-company classes in Madrid.

Hire Americans and do their papers?
No. However, if teachers qualify, Pueblo Inglés will
help them through the process, which "is nearly impossible."
Preference for British or Americans? Why?
None. Require only native or totally bilingual teachers.
However, it's the clients' requests that matter most. If
a client requests a particular accent, Pueblo Inglés
does its best to comply.
Estimated teachers hired yearly:
Currently have 30 full-time and 20 part-time teachers. Turnover
is low as very few teachers leave.
Teachers at Pueblo Inglés for over 4 years?
N/A as the company-class department has only been in operation
for a few years.
Number of students:
Over 2,000.
Best part about working at Pueblo Inglés:
The best recommendation that can be given to Pueblo Inglés
is that their own teachers give them a lot of word-of-mouth
and attract other teachers there. It's a good company which
provides a lot of support for their teachers, and which
has a very good relationship with them. They feel like they
are a part of a company in which all of the parts are inter-connected
and equally important.
Of course, the staff makes every effort to get their client
companies to block their hours, and not demotivate teachers
by sending them on 3-hour bus rides just to do hour-long
classes.
Other Benefits?
Teachers who stick around a second year get better blocks
and salaries, depending on the evaluations and management
of administrative tasks such as handing in papers at the
end of every month. Pueblo Inglés respects seniority
and people who do a good job. There are also good prospects
for promotion.
Offer teacher training or development along with
job?
Yes, there's a one week 40-hour training program with an
additional 10-hours of classroom practice.
Starters' average salary?
Teachers make between 19 and 24 euros an hour depending on a number of factors such as experience of the teacher and location and length of the classes.
