What does Booksellers offer?
Book sellers offers a wide selection of English language books and publications. The book store / shop is divided into two areas:
1. One section of the bookshop has English teaching textbooks and other teaching aides for learning and teaching the English language at all levels and for all needs: linguistics books, methodology books, business English books, medical English books, military English books, childrens’ English learning books, books for adults, beginners’ books, advanced learners’ books, etc.
There is also a wide variety of mono and bilingual dictionaries, graded readers for learners (some with the books on cassettes), audio books (or books on cassettes) for learners and native speakers of English and lots of DVD titles in stock for both children and adults.
CASIO makes an electronic
dictionary which I recommend for all English teachers
and students. It is available at Booksellers. See: Diccionarios
for more information.

2. The other smaller section of the bookshop has general fiction books, science fiction books, biographies, crime novels, thrillers, romance books, historical novels. It also has non-fiction books such as books on the history of literature, Shakespeare, poetry books, theatre, business, management, current affairs and history.
For those of you who are coming to Spain, there is a section with books on Spanish literature and history, books on Spain and other books on Spanish cooking.
There is also a section with English language press imported from the U.S. and the U.K. and you can always find the latest copy of “In Madrid” and other “free” Madrid related newspapers and magazines.
When is Booksellers open?:
The bookshop is open on weekdays from 9:30 to 14:00 p.m. and from 17:00 to 20:00.
Saturdays, from 10:00 to 14:00 only.
Closed Sundays and national holidays.
Note for teachers: If you are looking for a place with a bulletin board to post things like, say, you’re looking for a roommate or private students, I think there’s a pretty busy one here.
Bookseller‘s History:
Booksellers was founded 20 years ago (1986) when four unhappy
employees from a formerly successful book shop called Turners
decided to put together their own book store. Except for the capital
for the company, the four workers together covered the four most
important strategic areas: national publishers (or publishers
in Spain), import publishers (or international publishers), administration
and clients. Then, they found a fifth partner to provide the capital
to start the company.
As is so often true, the first few years in the company’s life were the most difficult. Still, they kept at it and the business grew. They started getting more and bigger clients and their suppliers started giving them better conditions. Their big break came when they got the British Council as a client and since then they have become firmly established in the books sector in Madrid.
Why booksellers for teachers?
There’s no better choice for freelance English teachers. Based on my personal experience, I can tell you that Booksellers has as good a selection of books and materials as (in some cases, better than) the other book shops (read: they have what I’m looking for) and that I usually get “treated” right.
Why booksellers for academies and schools?
Booksellers supplies the British Council because they offer them other services besides books. I recommend that you call this book shop for more information if you are interested in their supplying your school.
