Here are my photos of the Gran Via, Madrid's "Main" or "High"
street, depending on where you're from. Page 2 has some more uglier
photos of the back streets just north of the Gran via. The Gran
Via is north
of Sol and Puerta
del Sol, and meets up with Calle
de Alcalá in the east and Plaza de España in the west.

A good view from the Corte Inglés Restaurant at Callao
This restaurant / bar is awfully small (and, I think, cheap
enough). The view, however, is stunning. If you get here at
around 10 a.m. opening time, you can probably get a window seat
and a hot cup of coffee and churros. (I wouldn't bet on the
window seat though unless your willing to do some sprinting
at opening time.) By the way, I hear they've got free wi-fi.
