of providing quality language training for adults, in a professional
context.
Their programmes include:
Language Training: intensive and extensive English courses,
skills programmes, multimedia and e-learning options and courses
for executives in the UK as well as courses in other languages
including French, German and Spanish. Their Spanish department
is fully accredited by the Instituto Cervantes.
Professional Training: In-company and on-line courses. Outdoor
Training.
Business and Management Education: OU Business School courses.
Examinations: Registered centre for the LCCI (London Chamber
of Commerce and Industry) Examinations board.

During the academic year 2008-2009 in their two centres in Madrid
and Barcelona and through collaborative schemes with language
schools in other Spanish cities, they employed over one hundred
full and part time teaching staff, mostly on their English programmes.
They also employ a number of part-time contract and self-employed

DOS team
There are four people in the Directors of Studies team who are
always available to give direct help and "on the spot"
training to teachers. Teachers can expect to be observed at least
once in a year by a member of the Directors of Studies team, and
they will be given a detailed debriefing session after each visit
along with follow-up training if and when necessary.
Facilities
The Madrid centre is in Azca, near Nuevos Ministerios. Although
the majority of our work is in-company, we have 8 classrooms on
site and a spacious teachers’ room. We provide a wide range of
materials, including CDs, DVDs and current English language newspapers
and magazines. All teachers have access to the internet for down-loading
teaching material in addition to personal use.
Qualifications
required
TEFL Certificate and first degree.
Experience
required
2 years teaching experience. Experience in a business environment
is a definite plus. They also take on a limited number of teachers
with minimal experience.
Other requirements:
Teachers must be committed and have a strong sense of professionalism.
They should demonstrate the ability to build good working relationships
with students.
They are expected to arrive punctually to every class.
Appropriate dress must be worn both for in-company and on-site
classes.
Administrative work must be accurately carried out and promptly
handed in.
Residence permit
All teachers must either be EU citizens or have a valid work and
residence permit for Spain. Non EU citizens are welcome to apply
for teaching positions if they have a valid work and residence
permit and are native English speakers.
They hold regular interview sessions in UK for suitable applicants
and occasionally hire staff following a successful telephone interview.
Salaries
Freelance teachers are paid according
to their experience, the type of class and a number of other factors.
The basic rate is 20 Euros per hour. Teachers on contract are
given a package linked to the number of hours they work. The Christmas
and Easter holidays and any classes falling on public holidays
are included as are classes cancelled late i.e without the required
amount of notice.
Contract teachers are also paid for classes missed, if they are
ill.
Benefits
They are a well established and serious company with a reputation
for looking after their staff. They employ both contract and freelance
teaching staff. Every teacher, except those who are officially
self-employed, has a fully legal contract from their first day,
with all their salary included in the pay-slip, and paid directly
into their bank account before the end of each month. All of the
staff are therefore fully covered by social security in the case
of accident, illness, hospitalisation, claiming unemployment benefit,
pension, etc.
King’s Training aims to provide a secure and professional environment
in which teachers can enjoy working, and where the quality of
their work is recognised and rewarded.
If you are employed as a teacher on contract, the following always
form part of the “package”:
You are paid a fixed monthly salary, which includes holiday
pay i.e. you are paid in full for the Christmas and Easter holidays.
When your contract comes to an end you receive an extra payment
(finiquito) which is proportional to the length of the contract.
The national insurance contributions paid by you and by King’s
Training give you access to the national health system. There
is also cover for staff from a private medical insurance in the
event of an accident or serious illness at work.
They
always do their best to offer timetables with blocked hours
– so that teachers do not spend too much time travelling.
Spanish classes are offered free, subject to demand, one morning
per week. The classes are small and there are 3 levels. It is
also possible to prepare for the DELE examination (Diploma de
Español como Lengua Extranjera).
Teaching
support from the DOS department, resources in the centre in
Azca and photocopying facilities are all available. Resources
include magazines, "Instant Ideas," video and audio
material and a variety of other teaching material. A course
book with the accompanying CD will be lent to you for the duration
of each course together with a portable CD player or speakers
for your MP3 player.
Internet access is available on the PC in the staffroom. This
may be used for downloading material to be used in the classroom
and for checking your own personal mail.
Opportunities for staff development.
The centre in Azca has a small kitchen where you can make tea
or coffee. This is provided free of charge.
Reimbursement of 100% of the monthly travel card for teachers
doing 20 hours teaching or more and 50% for those teaching 10
to 19 hours.
The opportunity to work on King’s summer courses.
Staff development
There are informal workshops two or three times per term to discuss
a variety of TEFL issues. Staff are invited by King’s Training
to an informal lunch after the workshop.
Observation of classes is also used for staff development. Teachers
are always given notice of this type of observation.
