but if you need actually
need a hand and are willing to work with me on this in the way
I've outlined it on the page linked below, I'll help you out.
What's the idea in
a nutshell?:
The teachers' current availability and the schools' urgent
need are the key. What is now happening is that as soon as
an academy notifies me of their need, I send out the teachers'
availability (plus CVs and cover letter) that I now have.
(I also post the teachers availability on the site if they're
advertising on the site.) I'm not interested (in fact, I don't
think either the academies or teachers are really interested)
in my sending all my CVs to every school out there. Somebody
would actually have to look those CVs over and get in contact
with everyone on them to see what they're availability was,
which I think is probably an enormous waste of time for every
"professional" concerned as we all have better things
to do.
In any case, in order to make this work efficiently, I need
to receive most importantly your "availability"
and also more information on what sort of thing you're looking
for: location, etc. There are several important pieces of
information that I need listed below that'll help me improve
the service for you.
For example, if you told me that you were looking for an
entirely new job, I might tell you that a major agency just
told me this morning that it has a full schedule coming available
on Friday, which is true, and then I would send them your
CV.
Or, for example, as happened this weekend, a teacher told
me of his availability and I sent it out to various agencies,
but it was too late when they contacted him as he'd already
filled up his schedule because I'd put his availability on
the site.
Or, with another teacher, we posted his availability recently
and part of it happened to coincide with an agency's request
yesterday. I put them in contact with each other and have
no idea yet if anything's come of it.
Are you new to English
teaching?:
Would you like an experienced professional English teacher
to personally help you find teaching work? Do you have questions
about teaching jobs in Madrid and/or Spain and you want to
call and ask somebody? My name's Steven Starry and I've been
a teacher here since '93 and the webmaster of MadridTeacher.com
since 1999. For 10 euros (a symbolic rate designed to weed
out time-wasters because I even get lots of contacts from
non-natives and so on who can barely speak English but want
to teach it), I'll help you as I've outlined below.
Several schools have been asking me to keep an updated list
of teachers along with their availability, etc. There is so
much demand that several academies are even giving me "needs"
information that goes beyond what's listed on the site. If
you're still having trouble finding work, let me give you
a hand.
If you want to know
more about me:
You can see me speak here: Top
10 List - What academies want from an English teacher.
Otherwise, just look around the site. I hope it's enough of
a reference.
First, pay 10 euros
via Paypal (VAT included for 1 year):
This service is included in the rate for advertising
teachers (do not pay if you've already paid
for any other advertisement on the site - more info: Premium
Teacher Advertisements).
Note: post a comment with the payment about who it's from and
what it's for.
Send me your CV:
To begin with, copy the text of your CV and paste it into
the body of an email (for search-purposes with Gmail) and
send it to me at: madridteacher@gmail.com.
If I am to be able to help you, I need a little more information
about you. By sending me this cv, you authorize me to forward
it to any of the academies and/or agencies advertising on
this site. Also, make sure and send me a digital photo of
yourself in .jpg or .jpeg format if possible.
Also, answer these questions at the top of your email (I
may contact you to ask you more questions):
1) Availability: What's
your availability? Simply state the days and times available
(i.e. "complete availability," Available Mondays
and Wednesdays from 10:00 to 12:00, etc.) If you're available
between 13.00 and 17.00 state "available afternoons
on Mondays and Wednesdays from 13.00 to 17.00." If
you're available between 8.00 and 10.00 state "available
afternoons on Mondays and Wednesdays between 8.00 and 10.00."
The important thing is to leave the keywords "available
afternoons" or "available mornings" or "available
evenings" intact as I can use them to quickly search
through the emails in Gmail. Note: feel free to re-send
me your complete email with the CV, etc. with your updated
availability whenever you like. Schools are especially interested
in afternoon and morning slots, so keep me up-to-date on
that.
2) Current address: Where are you currently
living?
3) Contact info: How and
when can I or can I not contact you? What's your mobile
phone number? Do you have a Skype line? Let me know if you
do so I can add you to my list at Skype.
4) Internet access: Do
you have easy access to the internet? How? If not, can you
access the internet via your cellular phone to see the latest
job information at MadridTeacher.mobi?
5) Working papers: Do
you have working papers for Spain? (I.e. If a school expressly
requests that I only send them the cvs of the teachers with
working papers, I will do so.)
6) Other information: Your CV should include
all the pertinent information that an academy might be interested
in: nationality, level of education, qualifications, experience,
etc. Use a spell-check tool, etc.
7) Off the list?: Are there any academies
that you would prefer that I not send your CV to?
8) Type of job: If you haven't actually
mentioned it in your CV, what type of work exactly are you
looking for? (what type of contract, pay, students, location,
etc.) In other words, what exactly do you want me to do?
What are your expectations? If you start there, we might
at least clear up some misconceptions about what I can do.
9) Rates. Very important.
10) Anything else I should know?: Well,
let me know.
My office-hours
for this service:
You can "only"
call me on:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.00 to 12.00.
Phone: (34) 914860384. (Read "note"
before you call.)
Skype-web-cam-line: steven_starry (please
give me your skype address in your first email).
Note: This is not a "chat-line."
This is a service for paying clients. Please, read the other
text on this page and think about what you actually want before
you call and try to stay on topic. (A bit of digression is
ok.) See the "What exactly does the service consist of?"
section below. If (and "when" because it's already
happened) I get a call outside of the office-hours given above,
I'll figure that you haven't actually done your homework.
More about this
service:
This service was created on Jan. 20, 2008 and as such is
still in a trial or "beta" phase, which basically
means that it may be a bit of a muddle at first, but I should
be able to improve it quite a bit little-by-little. My aim
is to help as many English teachers as I can, however I can,
to get work in at least one of the 35-odd (Jan. 20, 2008)
academies advertising on MadridTeacher.com. In other words,
this service is "subsidized" by my academy-clients.
By helping you to find work, I'm helping them to find teachers.
In all cases, I'll mention the most recently available jobs
first to teachers who ask, and the most recently available
teachers to the schools who request teachers. You can help
me and yourself by keeping me up-to-date on everything.
What exactly does
the service consist of?:
Note: I am not an agent nor do I have an
agency or academy, but I am in constant contact with quite
a few people who are agents or DOSes and who constantly need
teachers. These are all people who work for the academies
in the employment section at: Employment
- Madrid. The first thing I'm going to do when you contact
me is tell you to contact any and all of those people on that
page if you haven't already done so. After you've done that
and you still need help, (send me your CV and other
information above), and email or give me a call at
my help line within the office hours. Hopefully, we'll only
have the odd-time-slot to fill in your schedule by then.
This "help-line" includes my informing you on the
latest jobs available via SMS. Also, this includes my being
a bit more proactive than previously about keeping up-to-date
about the academies' latest jobs in order to better help keep
you up-to-date. The idea is that if you have any questions
about English teaching in Academies and Agencies in Madrid,
I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability.
Note: I am no genius on getting work permits
nor finding apartments in Madrid.
Part of the service:
SMS Notification of the Latest Jobs
For those of you who'd like to receive notification
of the latest jobs posted via SMS (a text message to your cellular
phone), the service is included. This service is also included
in the rate for any advertising teachers (do not
pay if you're already advertising on the site - more info: Premium
Teacher Advertisements):
Basically, I will send as complete a message as possible (given
the length limitations of the technology) and post the info at
MadridTeacher.mobi
under "Latest Jobs" so you can access the info from your cell
phone.
