If you are a teacher who would like to purchase a teacher advertisement
on MadridTeacher.com on one of these pages: Profesores
de Inglés (for the centre of Madrid), Profesores
noroeste (for the northeast of Madrid), Profesores
norte (for the north of Madrid), Profesores
sur (for the south of Madrid) or a similar one for the southwest,
etc., you can now purchase an ad for 75 euros per year (VAT included).
MadridTeacher.com is a site which has been optimized to
help English teachers find students, clients or academies
to work in. More information on this can be found at: Members
and Teacher Advertisers. The basic adverts should be like
the ones at http://www.madridteacher.com/profesores-de-ingles.htm (Why not take a moment to look for "profesores de inglés"
or "cl@ses de inglés" - with "Madrid"
in G@@gle?) and all the information should come in Spanish.
If you cannot get it done in Spanish, I will do it for you,
but I will not guarantee an error-free English to Spanish
translation.
When you actually pay at Paypal (and in case somebody else is
paying for you and the payment name at Paypal doesn’t coincide
with yours), make sure to post a note along with the payment
saying whose ad it belongs to. (In case there’s any question,
you only get one advert for up to three areas.) However, it
is best for you to send me the duplicate information by e-mail
as I actually didn't receive the Paypal e-mail payment notification
once.
When you've actually decided to advertise and
you've paid for your advertisement, you can send all the information
that I need for your advertisement by email in the format below:
(Keep it all to around 1,000 characters)
Nombre: (Name)
Materias: (What you teach i.e. English)
Tarifa: (Your rates)
Comentario: (Make sure and include plenty of relevant
information.)
Teléfono: (Telephone)
E-Mail:
Also, make sure to let me know which banners to place (
= classes in people's homes; = classes
in the teacher's home; = you have your
own car. Please note that this banner:
is no longer reserved only for member teachers.) Also, if you don't
want to teach children's classes, for example, say so in your comments
area. I.e. "solo adultos." You'll likely otherwise receive a lot
of contacts that you don't want. (Our number 1 complaint.)
When you pay at paypal, you will of course receive notification of payment. However, if as an “autónomo” you will also need an invoice,
please send me an e-mail at
madridteacher@gmail.com with your NIF and other pertinent details
(name, address, etc.) and I
will mail it to you as soon as possible after payment has been made.
If you have any problem or if you haven’t heard from me and/or
Paypal within a reasonable period of time, please contact me,
Steven Starry, at
madridteacher@gmail.com.
(Again, make sure to email me everything.)
Also, before you actually pay, read the acuerdo de colaboración, which is still only in Spanish
and hasn’t been translated to English yet.
The agreement corresponds to what is required under Spanish law and reception of payment will be taken as your
having read the document and having agreed with it.
By the way, let me know if you'd like to be added to this page (at
no added cost): Traducciones.
All new advertisers (including returning past advertisers) Pay 75 euros now (VAT included) with Paypal:
Advertisers who first advertised before October 9, 2007 (and who are currently still advertised on the site),
pay 60 euros now (VAT included) with Paypal:
Paypal is used by around 50,000,000 people
worldwide, is just about completely safe and you only have
to give them your credit card information once over the internet
(similar to Amazon) and from then on your information will
remain in their database connected to your Paypal username
and password. (I limit my own credit card to 300 euros per
month for security reasons as well.) But, if for some reason
you would still rather not use your credit card online, get
in contact with me and I'll provide you with my bank account
number so you can do an electronic bank transfer at: profesor@madridteacher.com.

Although I’ve only been using the site for less than a year,
I have been absolutely delighted with the response my simple
ad has generated. No sooner had the advert been placed than
I started to receive emails and phone calls from potential clients.
Even more pleasing is that the response has not slackened. It
has continued right through this year. Typically I am getting
3 responses a week. I would also congratulate you on the after
sales service you have given. When I’ve asked for an update
to my details, you’ve put it into action within 24 hours if
not sooner. Well done and keep up the good work. Peter Wilson

Dear Bill,
You were right!!! Thanks to your advice, I advertised on www.madridteacher.com last September, 2007, and since then the quality of my life has changed, too. I no longer have to constantly worry about making contacts of possible students to fill in those empty spaces in my agenda and trying to sell myself over the phone or through an email. All that is a thing of the past. Usually those students who contact me through www.madridteacher.com only want to know how soon they can begin. They have seen my profile and have a pretty good idea of what to expect in my classes.
Warm Regards,
Karen
"As soon as I put my ad on Madrid Teacher I got enquiries.
The ad paid for itself within the first month. Through the ad
I have got telephone classes, company classes, groups, one to
one, translations… The service is extremely well organised and
well run."

My experience with the MadridTeachers
By Silvia Folch
A friend of mine told me about the MadridTeachers web page. He told me it was a very good page for freelance teachers and suggested me to join in.
I explored the page and I liked what I saw. The whole page was very enlightening; you could read about some of the other teacher’s experience in Spain, places to go in Madrid and many more interesting things. You had exercises for the students, which were great. There were meetings with other teachers and students in a café. The page was very complete and professional and I decided to join. This was a very intelligent decision.
As every freelance teacher in Madrid knows, the teaching hours are from 08:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 13:30 or 14:00 to 15:00 or 15:30 then in the afternoon from 17:00 to 21:00. The hours are like these, because, the students work and the companies allow them to have the classes first thing in the morning, or during their lunch time. If the students take their classes privately they take them after work. If they are children, then, they take their classes after school. It is important to have all these hours full if you want to earn enough money to make a living.
Since I am in the MadridTeachers web page my working hours are practically booked up all the time.
Once all your hours are full, it is time to pass the enquiry
to other teachers. I get an average of 5 calls a week, depending
on the season, in January and October, I get many, many calls,
and now in the spring, all the mothers with children who are
failing in school are calling me. However, I don’t have any
hours left to take new students, and I tell the callers to look
up the MadridTeachers for other teachers, but, they are all
fully booked like me. If you join the MadridTeachers you will
have your hours fully booked very soon and you will be able
to choose the location, the time and the kind of students you
want. Then you will be able to pass the calls from students
on to other teachers who advertise in the MadridTeachers web
page. Good luck Silvia Folch
In September of last year, a friend of mine recommended that I put an ad on madridteacher.com. Within the first month of putting up my profile, I received so many solicitations for teaching that I quickly filled up my schedule for the next several months. All the students who I have worked with so far, that found me on the website, have been truly interested in and dedicated to learning English. So, it has been my experience that the people using this site are seriously looking for teachers. In addition, Madridteacher.com has been my best and most immediate resource for connecting with new students and companies. People really do browse this website. Nine months later, I am still getting calls and emails soliciting my work. Putting my ad on the website has also been a good way for me to be in contact with the community of English teachers in Madrid.

After placing an ad in Madrid Teacher, the number of calls we received for English Classes increased noticeably. During certain periods of the year, particularly the Fall and the New Year, we receive four to five calls a day. Students, when asked how and where they had heard of us – by word of mouth or on Madrid Teacher -- consistently they tell us "Madrid Teacher." If you have any doubts about whether 60 euros a year for an ad on this website will be worth it, we would unquestionably say "YES." We would recommend you place your ad as soon as possible. Madrid Teacher is the first place everyone goes to find English classes.

Advertising in Google (Oct. 5,
2008)
In September of 2008, we started to advertise 7 euros per day on key search strings in Google Adwords (Clases de Inglés) looking for more students for "our" teachers. The projection is for about 200 euros a month or 2,500 euros a year depending on a number of factors. Last year, we spent about 3,600 euros advertising in English looking for teachers for academies. Also, we've been advertising in InMadrid newspaper for a couple of years, but we're probably going to cancel that ad in November in order to redirect the 70 euros a month to Google Adwords. In other words, I'd like to raise the amount in Google Adwords for the key search strings to 300 euros a month.
Statistics (Oct. 5,
2008)
The statistics in this graph show the number of monthly visits
from January to September of 2008. (The date the
snapshot was taken was the 5th of October, so the stats for October are incomplete.) In September, for example, there were 106,196
different visitors although some of them repeated their visits for a grand total of about 134,031 visits. You'll notice dips in the numbers during holiday months,
such as in January because of Three Kings Day and Easter Week in March and the summer holidays in July and August:
This next graph shows the total number of visitors per day in September of 2008 and the total number of pages they look at each day.
This graph shows the number of per page for the top
pages of the site during the month of September of 2008. Notice that
there were about 14,341 visits to the index page (the main page
of the site) and 3,637 to the Profesores de Inglés page.
"/madprofesores.xml" is the RSS page for showing the availability of the English teachers on the site - students subscribe to it looking for a teacher.
This graph shows the number of visits per month in 2007. If
you compare the visits data in 2007 with that of 2008, you'll
notice that the numbers are noticeably better this year, about
20 to 30% better. In September of 2007, for example, there were 91,561 visits to the site and in September of 2008 there were 134,031 visits.
Oct. 12 Announcement - Agent-advertisers vs. Teacher-Advertisers:
English teachers advertising on MadridTeacher.com are encouraged to pass classes on to English-teacher-friends without a commission of any kind whenever they like. I assume that your being a helpful, conscientious friend is good for the sector as a whole and your putting in a good word for the site probably attracts more teacher-advertisers, which probably attracts more visitors in turn - a nice little circle.
On the other hand, English teachers who subcontract classes to other teachers for a commision of some kind will be considered "agents." There is another separate marketing plan for such people on the site and in no case do I permit agent-advertisers to advertise as teachers at the same time. I will be happy to discuss the details with any teacher who wishes to become an agent.
